Progress report on elimination of Trachoma, 2013
2013 progress report on the elimination of Trachoma by the WHO Alliance for the Global Elimination of Blinding Trachoma by the year 2020 (GET2020).
The number of people living in trachoma-endemic districts was estimated to have reduced from 314 million in 2011 to 229 million in 2013, according to the World Health Organization. The 2014 estimate for the global population at risk is 232 million, but is based on significantly more data than previous estimates. More than 80% of the burden of active trachoma is concentrated in 14 countries, where immediate action is needed.

Situational analysis and strategy for change in Myanmar
An evaluation of the current eye care status in Myanmar was carried out between 3rd June and 11th Jun 2013 to look at the existing situation pertaining to infrastructure, human resources, service delivery, training facilities and role of other service providers (including nongovernmental organizations) for eye care in Myanmar with the purpose of recommending future directions in Myanmar.
The report was prepared by Mechi Eye Hospital and LV Prasad Eye Institute and supported by IAPB and Standard Chartered Bank.

Investing in Vision
In 2013 The Fred Hollows Foundation commissioned PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) to develop a framework that could be used to estimate the global cost of eliminating avoidable blindness as well as the monetary value of the benefits that would potentially arise from eliminating avoidable blindness and vision impairment.
PWC produced a series of reports, including national case studies for Pakistan, Kenya and China. The findings are summarised in the Investing in Vision report below.

This is the Global Action Plan document, made available as an Accessible Word document with permission from the World Health Organization.
In May 2013 the Sixty-sixth World Health Assembly adopted resolution WHA66.4 entitled ‘Towards universal eye health: a global action plan 2014–2019’. The resolution endorsed the draft action plan for the prevention of avoidable visual impairment for the period 2014–2019, which had been developed by the WHO Secretariat, in close consultation with the Member States and international partners, following the request of Member States at the Sixty-fifth World Health Assembly in 2011.
The global action plan 2014–2019 (GAP) aims to reduce avoidable visual impairment as a global public health problem and to secure access to rehabilitation services for the visually impaired. This should be achieved by expanding current efforts by the Member States, the WHO Secretariat and international partners, improved coordination, efficient monitoring, focusing the use of resources towards the most cost-effective interventions, and developing innovative approaches to prevent and cure eye diseases.
